Volunteers and Interns

Volunteers
Interns

Volunteers

Volunteers are accepted on a year-round basis.  Ayuda regularly needs volunteers for administrative support, and we also sometimes need volunteer child care and other assistance for our Hermanas Unidas program, a domestic violence survivors and empowerment group that meets on Saturdays.

Interns

Ayuda operates a highly respected internship and training program. Undergraduate, graduate or law school students may choose to intern either in Ayuda's Immigration Program or its Domestic Violence/Family Law program.  Social work interns may apply to the Social Services program.  Ayuda also welcomes administrative/fundraising interns for its general operations.  Ayuda internships are unpaid, but we are willing to assist with externship credit and/or fellowships if the student takes the lead.

Ayuda internships tend to follow the scholastic year: fall semester, spring semester, and summer. Interns during the academic school year are required to work 10-15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, for the entire semester (approximately 10-12 weeks). Summer internships with Immigration and Family Law/Domestic Violence programs are only open to law school students, whereas internships during the academic school year are open to all students.  Summer interns are required to work 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, for the entire summer (approximately 10-12 weeks).  Immigration and Domestic Violence/Family Law interns have the opportunity to work directly with Ayuda’s largely Latino client base, so they must be fluent in Spanish.  French is also an asset for immigration interns.

To receive school credit, students must meet the above requirements and any additional requirements specified by their school. Ayuda will work with students to determine how best to accommodate the student's needs.

Throughout the years, nearly a thousand interns have worked at Ayuda.  Several have applied for jobs at Ayuda thereafter and joined our talented staff.
